What is the purpose of the morning line-ups?

The morning line-ups are designed to ensure a strong start to the day and to provide an opportunity for consistent messaging around core values, expectations, and information about school life. They are also designed to ensure students in Years 7 to 11 are registered, have their uniform and equipment checked consistently so that once they get to their tutor time they can fully engage with the personal development programme. 

When and where will the morning line-ups take place?

The morning line-ups will take place in the playground at 8:40 AM. This is the same time that tutor time has always been scheduled to begin and formally marks the beginning of the school day. Students are expected to be outside in their tutor groups by this time.

What happens if a student is not ready to be registered at 8:40 AM?

If a student is not in the line and ready to be registered at 8:40 AM, they will be considered late.

What time will the student entrance open?

Timings of the student entrance opening has not changed. The student entrance will open at approximately 8.30am for students to come into school, visit the toilet if necessary and then head outside in time for morning line up.

What happens between 8.30am and 8.40am?

During this time there is an opportunity to correct and uniform or equipment issues by borrowing items from the staff at the student entrance. Staff will be on the playground from the time that the student entrance opens to greet students and welcome them into school. Students will begin to be encouraged to get into lines at 8.36am so that they are ready for the 8.40am formal beginning to the school day.

What should students bring to the morning line-ups?

Students should bring their bag, iPad and school equipment. They should bring a suitable coat if necessary, as the line-ups will take place in all weather conditions except heavy rain.

What happens after the morning line-ups?

After the register is complete and messages have been given, students will return to tutor time with their tutor for activities. Students will be allowed to wear their coat from the morning line up to their tutor room but then must remove their coat and carry their coat for the remainder of the school day.

Will there be any further rehearsals for the morning line-ups?

No, at the moment we are happy that the process is taking around 5 minutes and students are beginning to re-enter the school building at around 8.45.

What if a student needs to borrow uniform?

Students will have the opportunity to borrow uniform if required at the student entrance before the line up. Detentions will only be issued if a student fails to borrow or amend their uniform at 8.40.

Are other schools using a similar process?

Yes, many other schools across the country use a similar process, including other schools in Staffordshire.
