Wellbeing

In-school support for students

Wellbeing put simply is about being healthy and happy; it’s about developing as a person, feeling fulfilled and contributing to the community. At Nether Stowe, we are committed to promoting the importance of looking after our wellbeing and have a Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead at school who oversees a range of initiatives to support our students.

For students we:

  • Run small group wellbeing intervention sessions to support students struggling emotionally
  • Provide 121 support sessions for students
  • Hold drop-in wellbeing sessions at lunchtime for students throughout the week
  • Offer specific exam stress support sessions at lunchtimes
  • Allocate counselling and mentor sessions for students who require more intensive support
  • Run a mental health peer mentoring programme – research suggests that young people feel more comfortable talking to their peers
  • Deliver assemblies at least once every term with a mental health focus
  • Organise form time activities every week with a mental health focus
  • Incorporate mental health sessions into our PSHE programme
  • Organise events throughout the year to promote the importance of wellbeing – World Mental Health Day, Time to Change Day, Mental Health Awareness Week
  • Hold lunchtime events like ‘Curry and Chat’ and ‘Cake with Me’ every half term to encourage students and staff to sit, eat and chat together
  • Run the ‘Eco Warrior’ project where students have the opportunity to get outdoors and work with nature on the school allotment
